So whats it all about.....
Evesham Relay For Life was started in 2007 to support Cancer Research UK against all of the various forms of cancer by raising funds during one yearly event. It is a 24 hour event held at Evesham High School, comprised of various teams of eight or more people.
Throughout the 24 hours at least one member of each team must be walking around the track. Each team member pays a £15 entry fee which assures the event of a baseline revenue with all other funds being raised by sponsorship, donations and various fund raising activities throughout the twelve months leading up to the event.
The day of the Relay is the focal point of the12 month lead up to it and is a 24 hour period filled with various community events, stalls and activities. It is a family day and the age range at the Relay is anything from six weeks to 85 years old.
Two highlights of the event are the Cancer Survivors Lap of Honour and the Candle of Hope Ceremony held after dark. The Lap of Honour is the Relay’s first lap of the track with all the participating cancer survivors walking round, together with their families. Then the Relay is truly under way.

The Candle of Hope Ceremony is usually held after dark around 10pm and hundreds of special candle bags are lit and placed every metre around the track. The bags have been decorated by participants or friends of the Relay in honour of loved ones or survivors still battling the disease. The bags are donated by people to remember loved ones and are decorated with a message and to that person, the bags are then lit all around the track and the effect is dramatic and moving.

Together we can beat cancer………….
