Charity Progress (August 26, 2009)
As quoted from a letter from Cancer Research Uk

Cancer Research Uk are extremely proud and grateful to have your support, which goes towards the progress we are making in all areas of cancer research, treatment and prevention.  The money you raise truly is truly helping us to make a differenceto the lives od cancer patients and there families everywhere. For example:-

  • Breast cancer survival rates continue to improve significantly- a 30%increase in the last 40years, in fact. Cancer Research Uk is th single largest funder of breast cancer research inn the uk, funding around 20 breast cancer clinical trials across the Uk that areinvestigaing new ways to prevent and treat the disease.
  • Bowel cancer survival rates have doubled over the last 30years and today over half of all patients are expected to survive bowel cancer. CRUK have over 10 clinical locations funding research into Bowel cancer.
  • Prostrate cancer is themost common cancer in men in the UK with more than 34,000cases diagnosed every year. CRUK has played a pivotale role in the early development and testing of a new drug called abiraterone which is now in clinical trial against aggressive prostrate cancer.
  • The charitys 4,500 doctors nurses and scientists have contributed to 19 of the top 20 drugs used to treat patients worldwide. Thanks to our leading role in developing cancer drugs, hundreds of thousands of people have beaten the disease. This wouldnt be possible without the money you raised through Relay For Life
Today around 290,000 people are newly diagnosed with cancer each year. The overall cancer death rate continues to fall but cancer still causes one in four deaths every year, meaning that there is so much more work we still have to do.
